As Company H, Eighth Alabama, Pryor's Brigade, it pushed, and overtook,
and whipped its enemy at Williamsburg, and next at Seven Pines, May 5, 1862.
Then in Wilcox's Brigade at Mechanicsville, Gaines' Mill, June 27, 1862;
Frasier's Farm, June 29, where they were face to face with the Irish Brigade;
Second Manassas; Harper's Ferry; Sharpsburg; Fredericksburg, December 13,
1862. Next at Salem's Church; Gettysburg; the Wilderness; Spottsylvania;
Richmond; Cold Harbor, June 3, 1864, where 6000 Yankees were slaughtered
in less than one hour, Wilcox's Brigade withstanding their rushing charge.
It fought cavalry on the Weldon Road; again at Deep Bottom; Boydston Plank
Road; in the trenches at Petersburg; was last at Appomattox, where they
divided the regimental flag. Its captain was last regimental colonel and
he was wounded not less than five times."
Die Kompanie H der 8ten Alabama Infantrie bedrängte, überrannte
und schlug als Teil von Pryor's Brigade den Feind bei Williamsburg und anschließend
bei Seven Pines am 5. Mai 1862. Danach kämpfte die Einheit als Teil
von Wilcox's Brigade bei Mechanicsville, bei Gaines' Mill am 27 Juni 1862
und bei Frasier's Farm am 29 Juni, wo sie Seite an Seite mit der Irischen
Brigade dem Feind gegenüberstand. Es folgten Kämpfe bei Manassas;
Harper's Ferry, Sharpsburg und bei Fredericksburg am 13 Dezember 1862. Weiterhin
schlug sich die Kompanie bei Salem's Church, Gettysburg, "The Wilderness",
Spottsylvania, Richmond, sowie bei Cold Harbor am 3. Juni 1864, wo 6000
Yankees in weniger als einer Stunde hingeschlachtet wurden und wo Wilcox's
Brigade dem Ansturm des Feindes standhielt. Die Einheit kämpfte gegen
feindliche Kavallerie auf der Weldon Road sowie bei Deep Bottom, Boydston
Plank Road sowie in den Schützengräben bei Petersburg und stand
zuletzt bei Appomatox, wo sie schließlich die Flagge streichen mußte.
Der Captain (Hauptmann) der Kompanie war zuletzt Colonel (Oberst) des Regiments.
Er wurde im Verlauf des Krieges nicht weniger als fünfmal verwundet.
