The Internet is perhaps the most powerful tool for reenactors of the War
for Southern Independence to let others know of their activities and grow
their unit.
In December, 1996, the 37th Texas Cavalry established its beginning site
on the Web with 18 pages. At that time, the unit had five mounted and six
dismounted members. By December, 2000, there had been over 86,000 site visitors
and the unit had expanded to about 43 members from all over the country.
The site has won 113 awards for content, graphics, sound, and contribution
to the Web Community, and become a focal point for historic research and
the unit's activities. Almost nothing on the site itself is borrowed from
any other site on the Web - it is original work of the author.
Web pages are kept to 100K or less and have embedded music files to entertain
the visitor while pages load. Links are logical and intuitive and links
are validated. Pages are free of typos and spelling errors and designed
to "fit" the unit. If you have not visited this 100+ page web
site, please take time to visit now:

Another site designed by SKIRMISH LINE is that of the 8th Alabama Infantry,
Company I. This is tailored to a very unique, all-Irish Confederate unit
both by sight and sound. Once again, nothing is "borrowed," the
page memory load is kept reasonable, and embeded music "fits"
the graphics and content. Take the opportunity to see for yourself:

The memory of the Mobile German Fusiliers (8th Alabama Infantry, Co.
H) has also been placed on the Web at:

I am also responsible for the graphics design of the following Civil
War "rings":
The Southron Ring
The Reenactor Ring
The Cavalry Ring
If your unit is contemplating establishing itself on the Web, or has
a site that does not satisfy you, or you cannot find a web designer who
has a "feel" for the Civil War, contact me.
