If you're looking for some outstanding Southern Celtic Bluegrass from
encampment, this is your best choice. With fiddle, guitar, mandolin, hammered
dulcimer and mountain dulcimer, Un-Reconstructed creates a mood that is
even richer in-person.
While their first CD does not include much of what would be considered
"mandatory" music of the War - actually only "When Johnny
Comes Marching Home" qualifies - the CD does include many period
pieces often overlooked in the rush to be "Civil War Correct."
The rich musical legacy of the time and the Irish influence on Country and
Bluegrass music is made crystal clear.
Their second album, "Thistles n' Dixie," brings us the classics:
Dixie; Rose of Alabamy; Rebel Soldier; Shiloh's Hill; and the theme
of the 37th, Bonnie Blue Flag. Other era tunes and Irish music fill
out this fine album.
The third and latest album from our good friends of "Un-Reconstructed"
hits the nail square on the head with its title "WE DARE TO SING
DIXIE." In a time when the playing of the tune "Dixie"
is often classified as a "hate crime" Un-Reconstructed has taken
the bull by the horns and compiled some excellent versions of Southern war
songs such as "Rally Round The Flag," "The Bonnie
Blue Flag," "I'm A Good Ol' Rebel," and, of course,
the wartime version of "Dixie."
The real plus on this album is the original tune "The Hunley."
If nothing else compels you, buy the album for this one tune alone...but
do not miss this album.
These are recommended purchases for anyone building a library of grittily
authentic music of the period of War for Southern Independence. If you can't
find them in the field, you can order their tape from them for $10, and
their CD for $15.
